We have an exciting opportunity for an Trading Standards Enforcement Officer to join our clients offices based in Cornwall on a temporary contract basis for 2 months with the possibility of an extension.

As the Trading Standards Enforcement Officer, your main duties will include:

  • To provide both legal and best practice support and guidance to colleagues, businesses and external stakeholders on imported and exported non-food products post BREXIT.
  • To carry out a range of targeted Trading Standards interventions in businesses including those that currently "export" to the EU to ensure that regulatory contraventions are effectively and promptly communicated to the duty holder followed by proportionate education and /or enforcement action where necessary to achieve legal minimum standards and to promote good practice.
  • To deliver the full range of Trading Standards functions including inspection, auditing, advice, sampling, investigation and enforcement to businesses for which we have jurisdiction.
  • To respond to communications from central government and carry out appropriate follow up action. Ensuring that, for example, correct documents are completed and access to systems gained.
  • Undertake research into relevant consumer protection and/or business and industry related issues to inform future activity.
  • To attend meetings with groups and partners such as BEIS, DEFRA and the Food Standards Agency as and when required.
  • To maintain a comprehensive knowledge of legislation, best practice and procedures in all aspects of Trading Standards, to enable competent delivery across the specialism.
  • To maintain accurate, timely and comprehensive records of work undertaken and to assist in maintenance of the database. To be successful for this Trading Standards Enforcement Officer post you will need to have:

  • Diploma in Consumer Affairs & Trading Standards (or predecessor qualification) or a Diploma or Degree in a relevant subject such as Applied Criminal Investigation & Criminology, Food Science or Animal Health Up to date knowledge and understanding of relevant Trading Standards legislation.
  • Successful experience of delivering the appropriate Trading Standards function.
  • Proven experience of conducting relevant Trading Standards inspections/interventions at business premises.
  • Proven experience of carrying out all aspects of investigations into breaches of the law.
  • Successful experience of leading and/or contributing to the delivery of projects.
  • A relevant degree in Trading Standards.
  • Proven experience of carrying out all aspects of investigations into breaches of the law.
  • Proven experience of conducting relevant Trading Standards inspections/interventions at business premises.
  • Successful experience of delivering the appropriate Trading Standards function.
  • Successful experience of leading and/or contributing to the delivery of projects.
  • Up to date knowledge and understanding of relevant Trading Standards legislation.

Start Date: ASAP

Working Hours: 37 Hours per week, Monday - Friday

Pay Rate: £25.00 p/h
