A 5 Month+ opportunity for a Project Officer has arisen within the local authorities in Southwark.

Job Purpose

  • To work independently and on own initiative on assigned projects or workstreams; assessing and resolving issues, in line with policies and procedures, escalating more complex issues where appropriate.
  • Implementing and co-ordinating a programme of housing acquisitions and responsible for co-ordination of small scale new build projects under the direction of the Development Manager.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Responsible for small scale new build and refurbishment projects from inception to completion, responsible for co-ordinating and directing a project team of internal staff and external consultants, including architects and employers agent, under direction of the Development Manager . Produce, present and seek approval for reports at key milestones, and be responsible for ensuring the scheme meets the programme objectives, agreed acceptance criteria and objectives for the long term asset management strategy. Accountable for the project budget and funds of up to £1m. Managing the resident consultation process throughout the development process and ensure the objectives for the Council's Charter of Principles are met.
  • Responsible for project support duties for the New Build and regeneration projects creating documents (e.g. minutes, presentations, spreadsheets and project plans), diary organisation, management of emails and co-ordinate communication plans using a variety of systems as required.
  • Support Project Managers responsible for delivering New Homes and Regeneration projects including standing in for Project Managers at schemes meetings for projects between £5m-£25m and providing direction to internal staff and external consultants.
  • Responsible for coordinating, producing and reports against performance documentation related to new build and regeneration within milestones/deadlines and liaise with colleagues as required. Responsibility for project configuration; managing circulation and version control and versioning and inputting into quality and change control. Providing management information to support the 30 year New Homes Programme.

  • Manage the implementation of the defects process for new homes, liaise with consultants and contractors, and monitor performance. To closely monitor and provide regular analytical reports for senior management on performance, highlighting any areas for improvements and provide recommendations to improve performance and be responsible for implementing changes.

Person Specification

  • Knowledge of management information systems
  • Good working knowledge of ICT applications and office systems
  • General knowledge of the local authority or other public sector or voluntary organisations
  • Knowledge of project management processes and systems
  • Experience of working with a range of databases, spreadsheet and information systems
  • Experience of co-ordinating projects and working at a range of levels within organisations and externally
  • Experience in supporting project management delivery in an environment of inter-dependent projects

Rate of pay

PAYE: £20.30

Umbrella: £25.27

Hours of work are 9am till 5pm, Monday to Thursday.
