We have an exciting opportunity for a Planning Assistant to join our busy offices based in Leamington Spa on a temporary basis for 7 months with the possibility of an extension. We are looking for someone to start ASAP, working 30 hours per week, at £11.96 p/h.

As the Planning Assistant, your main duties will include:

  • Assess and process planning applications and related submissions for the householder and other minor developments within statutory timescales in accordance with national and local legislation and policy; including where appropriate site inspections, researching planning history, negotiations with the applicant on securing amendments where appropriate, preparation of reports and recommendations, and drafting decisions and conditions.
  • To respond in writing within appropriate timescales to written enquiries from applicants and/or their agents and the general public on development proposals in order to advise on the need for planning permission and other development-related consents; on how to successfully submit an application as necessary, and providing advice on the likely response of the Council to the proposal.
  • To deal in a timely manner with enquiries from members of the public by phone, email or in-person who are seeking information and advice on planning matters; including the need for planning permission and other development-related consents, general information on current applications with the Council, general information on the planning system and processes, general advice on planning policy and the acceptability of development proposals.
  • To assess and process applications to discharge conditions or amendments to the householder and minor developments within appropriate timescales and in accordance with national and local legislation and policy; including where appropriate site inspections, researching planning history, negotiations with the applicant on securing amendments where appropriate, preparation of reports and recommendations, and drafting decisions.

To be successful for this Planning Assistant post you will need to have:

  • Relevant degree or experience in a planning/development environment
  • Relevant post-graduate qualification
  • Membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute
  • Experience in dealing with planning within historic towns and buildings with architectural details
  • Relevant post-graduate qualification
  • Membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute
