Our client is seeking a Markets and Street Trading Assistant on an initial 1 month contract with the possibility of an extension.
37 Hours per week
Monday - Friday
To assist the Market & Street Trading Manager with the operation of Cambridge Markets comprising the six day General Market, Sunday Arts & Craft Market and All Saints Garden Market.
To assist the Market & Street Trading Manager with the operation of licensing functions and street trading consents on the public highway.
Duties and Responsibilities:
To maintain comprehensive, accurate and up-to-date records (computerised or manual as appropriate) containing data on applications, waiting lists, consultation records, licences granted, licences rejected, equality monitoring, enforcement actions and any other relevant information, for:
Street Trading pitches/Market stalls,
To assist the Market & Street Trading Manager in allocating licences for stalls and pitches, all in accordance with service standards, procedures and codes of practice.
To ensure, in conjunction with the departments central support service, the timely production (where appropriate) and dispatch of letters, conditions and licences etc, for the Markets and Street Trading Service.
To ensure, in conjunction with the departments central support service, the charges of all fees, rents, rate recharges and such other charges that may arise from time to time.
Walk the Market(s) and visit all street pitches on a regular basis to monitor all aspects of their operation, reporting any concerns back to the Market and Street Trading Manager.
To maintain adequate supplies necessary for the operation of the Market(s).
Carry out any other duties as required by the Markets and Street Trading Manager from time to time in accordance with the grading of the post.

Skills and Experience:
Familiarity with Information Technology generally and word processing in particular.
Experience of dealing with the public, preferably in public service.
Able to work unsupervised, and communicate well, both in writing and orally.
A high level of initiative.
