Our client is currently recruiting for a Housing Officer based within St Albans City and District Council. This is a fulltime position 37HRS Per week at a rate of £15.00PH. Initially for a period of 3 months with the possibility of an extension.

Your main duties may include:

  • Ensuring income maximization to include dealing with tenants in rent or service charge arrears and taking action including referral to court, preparation of court cases and representation of the council in court, action which leads to a court order and eviction. Advising tenants on benefit entitlement and assisting tenants with Housing Benefit claims and where necessary arranging referral and support from the Housing Benefit Visiting Officer, CAB, floating support, HMRC/DWP or any other relevant agency.
  • Dealing with any other breaches of tenancy including but not limited to, nuisance, subletting, fraud investigation and anti-social behavior. Referral and liaising with legal representatives collection of evidence, preparation, and defense of litigation, and to attend court to give evidence on behalf of the council including cross-examination by other parties or their legal representatives.
  • To participate in RTB and Leasehold Management by Section 151 consultation with leaseholders and liaison with the Leasehold Management Officer regarding recovery of leasehold charges, provision of accurate information for Right To Buy sales, and provision of information to Solicitors Enquiries upon sale of leasehold interests.

Skills and experience:

  • 3 years of experience of working within social housing.
  • Knowledge of environmental protection legislation including health and Safety regulations and Fire regulations.

  • Educated to degree level or 3 years of working in social housing service provision in a position which requires an assessment of information and justifiable actions based on that information

  • Ability to drive and a valid driver's license.

  • Ability to climb stairs.

Working hours will be Monday to Friday 09:00-17:00
