A 2 month+ opportunity for a Housing Officer has arisen within the local authorities in Southwark.

Job Purpose

  • The Housing Solutions Service is under increasing demand to provide good quality accommodation for the provision of temporary accommodation under Homeless Legislation and private sector properties to help prevent homelessness

  • Acquisitions will range from individual properties to blocks or estates, some acquisitions are likely to be complex, involving requirement to assimilate understanding of a wide range of complex service issues, with council and external requirements, including compliance with financial and procurement requirements, statutory legislation and governmental performance indicators.

Main Accountabilities

  • To allocate temporary accommodation for homeless applicants and control all activities leading to admissions and discharges in order to achieve both a high degree of customer satisfaction and the most efficient and economic use of available accommodation
  • To identify available temporary accommodation for homeless households, visit new Temporary accommodation to establish a working relationship and service standard with other accommodation providers
  • Promote and sell Council schemes by organising and co-ordinating regular publicity events, including the Landlords Forum. Producing leaflets, mail shots and any other appropriate information.
  • Maintain a database of all landlords who have enquired into letting their property to the Council and follow up and encourage them to supply properties. Maximise the conversion of properties from initial enquiries through to lettings.

Knowledge and Experience

  • Knowledge of relevant housing legislation and guidance around homelessness and temporary accommodation, including housing benefit regulations.
  • Knowledge of housing benefit rules and regulations, welfare benefits and issues relating to private rented tenancies.
  • Knowledge of relevant housing legislation and guidance around homelessness and temporary accommodation, including housing benefit regulations.
  • Knowledge of Temporary Accommodation (TA) and the issues affecting people living in TA, their aspirations and vulnerability.
  • Experience of procurement of properties, including inspection, and negotiating with landlords in the private sector.
  • Experience of working within a private rented sector housing industry.

Working Hours:

Monday - Friday

09:00 - 17:00

Rate of Pay:

PAYE: £15.75

Umbrella Company: £19.61
