Our client is seeking a Grounds Person on an initial 4 month contract with the possibility of an extension.

Working Hours:

41 Hours per week

Monday - Friday

Pay Rate:

£9.74 p/h

Job Purpose:

The post reports either directly or via a Charge Hand Groundsman to the Area Officer Parks in the Parks and Outdoor Facilities Service within the Public Services Division.

Ensure a high quality parks maintenance service is delivered at all times, being either part of a team or as an individual in a designated location.

Ensure all parks grounds, facilities and open spaces are maintained to a high standard at all times, being fit for purpose and safe for users and the general public to use and enjoy.

Ensure all legislative and council policies and procedures are adhered to at all times, including financial and personnel processes.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Work effectively either as an individual or as part of a group, with contractors and other groups in the community.

Complete maintenance works per season to playing fields, sports areas, preparation and upkeep to flower/rose/scrub bed areas. A large part of the summer duties involves activities around grass cutting operations, including use of mowers, strimmers and clean up post maintenance work.

Being accountable for the successful completion of all task/projects given by charge hand or area officer during working time and to ensure any materials/compounds and equipment are returned to a safe store at the close of the day, period of work.

Ensure all instructions given, stated deadlines and targets are achieved through safe and efficient/productive measures in order not to increase costs.

Ensure all paperwork and procedures are completed correctly on a daily basis and where required/requested signatures are provided to cover fuel, materials, time sheet claims, tick sheets and vehicle/ plant/machinery defect report sheets.

Operation of powered plant, vehicles, materials and tools/equipment

Delivery of a productive and efficient service with direct responsibility for small plant, a wide range of hand tools, vehicles and machinery across the county borough.

Ensure at all times during work periods all risks are identified, minimised or negated via the use of communication procedures, safe systems of work, use of protective equipment and by reporting of any damaged/faulty plant, vehicles and equipment.

Skills and Experience:

Able to safely use a range of horticultural/turf maintenance plant, machinery and tools.

Able to work to instruction, prioritising the workload to ensure all deadlines and productivity targets are met.

Able work as an individual or as part of a group in order to meet set objectives.

Able to communicate in a group or with public in reasonable manner and make decisions when required covering a range of work activities.

Safe operation of small plant/machinery and vehicle in good and adverse wet conditions.

Experience in working in a variety of work based locations, including highways, sports facilities, schools, parks, cemeteries and housing areas.
