A 3 months+ opportunity for a Council Tax Registration Officer has arisen with the local authorities in Cambridge.
Work in Cambridge or Home Worker.
MAIN ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
To have and maintain a sound knowledge of all aspects of Council Tax and Non Domestic Rate Legislation and a basic understanding of Housing Benefit and Council Tax Benefit.
To ensure all applications for Council Tax and Non-Domestic Rate exemptions, discounts, disregards and reliefs are verified and correctly processed and where appropriate ensure refunds and transfers are administered in a timely manner in line with the council's own policies and procedures.
To ensure that all documentation and records relating to the assessment of Council Tax and Non-Domestic Rates liability, including property exemptions, discounts, discount disregards, reliefs, refunds & transfers are kept up-to-date and maintained on a daily basis.
When required, set up new dwellings on the Council Tax and Non-Domestic Rate system, notify the Valuation Office Agency of any new Council Tax and Non-Domestic Properties and action the Valuation Office Agency Schedule of Alterations, ensuring amended demand noticed are sent accordingly.
On receipt of a returned demand notices, liaise with other councils and make full use of all associated computer systems in order to, verify and obtain information on all matters relating to the occupancy of properties in Cambridge for Council Tax and Non Domestic Rates to assist with the recovery of unpaid Council Tax and Non Domestic Rates, including the issue of recovery documents.
Skills and Experience:
experienced assessor with a working knowledge of Northgate and I@W Enterprise
Council tax registration and billing experience.
Hours of work are 9am till 5pm, 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
